Reenie Recommends...

Well, the writer's stike has taken it's toll on our TV lineup, and right about now Richard and I are regretting cancelling our Netflix account. Fortunately there have been a few good movies out there, in the theaters and at Blockbuster.

Here's a nice pairing of films for you... Go to the theater and see Juno and then come home and rent The Waitress. Two completely different stories about being pregnant, but they work really well as a pair.

Another pair of films that might work well together are The Host (on DVD) and Cloverfield (just opening at the theaters this weekend). Although we didn't thoroughly enjoy The Host, it had it's charm and monster movie moments. Our version was dubbed into English, so perhaps the original Korean with subtitles would have made it better.

We really did enjoy Cloverfield, but wonder if it had more to do with all of the hype and viral marketing I've been following. If you can get past the shakey hand-held camera in the first 15 minutes, the ride that follows is really worth it. Thankfully the movie is fairly short, which makes the experience more intense and more satisfying. I doubt I'd be able to see it again, since I have a real problem with motion sickness. I don't know if this is praise or not, but Richard said the best part of the movie was the preview of the new Star Trek film. What can I say, he is quite the geek.

Enjoy!
