This weekend we checked out two movies that have been on my hold list for a while at the public library. I'm very impressed with the availability of independent films through the Stark County Public Library system.
This weekend we checked out Never Let Me Go and Please Give. We watched Never Let Me Go on Saturday night and I wish I could get my hour and half of my life back. I think it was well-acted (Keira Knightly and Carey Mulligan) but the story was not for me. If I found out that I was a clone destined for early death after repeated organ donations, I would think that a rebellion would be in order. But then again, maybe the British are too refined for that? Maybe I missed the point...
Tonight we watched Please Give. I love a movie with well-developed characters with human flaws. Catherine Keener is one of my favorite actresses who does not get the recognition she deserves, at least from the mainstream critics. If you can get past the opening scene (if you are squeamish about getting a mammogram, you might was to fast forward past the opening credits) you'll be drawn in immediately. If you can't get it from the Redbox, put it on hold at the library and wait a bit. It's worth it!
